When a person is initially diagnosed with diabetes, one of the first questions they have is what blood sugar level is dangerous?; what blood sugar is too low? what blood sugar is too high? Because everyone’s personal health history and bodily function are as unique as a fingerprint, it may influence how the body responds to diet, medicine, and other variables that influence blood sugar normal levels.
Guidelines for normal glucose levels in persons without diabetes are provided by health organizations, and they range somewhat from the normal or goal values suggested for those with diabetes. If you have diabetes, your healthcare practitioner will work with you to tailor your target blood sugar levels to your specific health requirements.
What is blood sugar?
When you consume, the carbohydrates in your meal are broken down into a kind of energy known as glucose. Glucose, often known as sugar, enters the circulation and is helped into our cells by a hormone called insulin.
The quantity of glucose in the bloodstream is reduced as a result of this process. When this mechanism is working properly, your muscles and organs get the fuel they require without having too much glucose in the blood.
What High blood sugar level is dangerous?
In medical terms, these are known as Emergency Highs. Although high blood sugar levels commonly cause symptoms such as excessive urination, thirst and hunger, and weight loss, these blood sugar high levels can also cause lower extremity paresthesias (“pins and needles” sensations) and/or loss of feeling, blurry vision, and a tendency to be at higher risk for infections and a variety of other medical problems such as kidney and eye damage, heart attack, and stroke. Extremely high blood sugar levels (for example, 1000 mg/dL or more) can induce diabetic ketoacidosis, which can result in loss of consciousness and death. IV fluids and insulin are used to treat extremely high blood sugar levels.
Note: Ketones – When the body starts to break down fat in order to get energy, ketones are a byproduct. When too many of those build up in the blood, it makes the blood acidic and can lead to diabetic ketoacidosis.
Why blood sugar is high in the morning? Well, Hormones such as cortisol and growth hormone tell the liver in the early hours of the morning to increase the synthesis of glucose, which gives the energy to help you wake up. This causes beta cells in the pancreas to produce insulin, which helps to keep blood glucose levels under control. So is blood sugar higher in the morning? What Low blood sugar level is dangerous?
Low blood sugar symptoms include hunger, anxiety, sweating, dizziness, and disorientation; if left untreated, low blood sugar (also known as hypoglycemia) can lead to unconsciousness, seizures, coma, or death. Blood sugar levels of 70 mg/dL or less are considered low. Hypoglycemia can occur in diabetics who take too much medicine (insulin) or take their regular quantity but then eat less or exercise more than usual. Although far less common, hypoglycemia can occur in persons who do not have diabetes if they take someone else’s medicine, drink too much alcohol, get severe hepatitis, or acquire a rare pancreatic tumor (insulinoma). Oral glucose intake (15. 0 grams of sugar, for example, 1 tablespoon of sugar, honey, corn syrup, or IV fluids containing glucose) is used to treat hypoglycemia. After treatment, recheck your blood sugar levels in around 15 minutes.
What blood sugar is too low? can blood sugar be too low?
So, can blood sugar be too low? According to CDC, a blood sugar level of less than 70 mg/dL is considered low. Check your blood sugar if you suspect it is low. If you can’t inspect it, go ahead and treat it. Untreated low blood sugar may be hazardous, therefore it’s critical to know what to do and to treat it right away.
Why blood sugar 2 hours after eating goes high?
Normal blood sugar levels are less than 140 mg/dl. Prediabetes is defined as having a blood sugar level between 140 and 199 mg/dl, while diabetes is defined as having a blood sugar level of 200 mg/dl or higher. A person who does not have diabetes is unlikely to be monitoring their blood sugar levels. However, one of the diabetes screening procedures is known as an oral glucose tolerance test or OGTT. (A slightly modified version of the OGTT is also used to identify gestational diabetes, which occurs during pregnancy.) The person must fast overnight before going to the doctor’s office or a lab in the morning for this test. The fasting blood sugar will be measured using a blood sample.
What blood sugar is too high? or how much blood sugar is too high?
Blood sugar levels of 300 mg/dL or higher, according to the University of Michigan, can be hazardous. If you have two readings in a row of 300 or more, they advise you to see a doctor. Blood sugar when fasting
Blood sugar when fasting (also known as fasting plasma glucose or FPG) is a blood sugar level determined after fasting (without eating or drinking anything other than water) for at least eight hours. A blood sugar when fasting test is used to measure how much glucose (sugar) is in the blood, and it is often used to screen for diabetes or prediabetes. The blood test is often performed at a lab, a doctor’s office, or a hospital. A blood sample may be taken from a vein in your arm and collected in a tube before being tested in a laboratory. A blood sample can also be collected by doing a finger-stick using a lancet.
